Group Training
Product Development and Manufacturing
PI: Becky L. Rivoire, Colorado State University
The Group Training in Product Development and Manufacturing is a unique training program offered to enhance the knowledge and career potential for those investigators, graduate students, and technical associates interested in pursuing product specific development capacities.
Two aims will be pursued to achieve the intended Group training:
- Group training events at the RMRCE Annual Meetings. Training will be targeted to meet the needs of the investigators using a (a) hands-on workshop, (b) brief presentation of a real time example to provide a template for investigators, and c) professional seminar by an industry expert. Thematic topics will range from early development prototype design and late development preclinical testing to manufacturing processes and test and release assays.
- Expand the Professional Development Training Program within the PDM Core. Training in product translation, regulatory affairs, good laboratory practice (GLP) and current good manufacturing practice (cGMP), various development studies, preclinical studies, quality control and quality assurance will be offered to up to four trainees per year. The success of this training program will be evaluated annually using specified metrics to measure expected and unexpected outcomes.
Biosafety
PI: Robert P. Ellis, Colorado State University
The Group Training Program in Biosafety will provide a comprehensive training program for biosafety and BSL-3 operations in the RMRCE. The training will draw on the expertise at Colorado State University as the basis for the core of the Group Training in Biosafety, expertise from throughout the Rocky Mountain Region VIII, as well as experts in other regions.
Training will involve a practical experience. Individuals will be encouraged and solicited to spend short-term training of one to four weeks in the Rocky Mountain Regional Biocontainment Laboratory at Colorado State University.
The length of training will depend on the individual subjects and the specific training determined to best benefit the trainees. The Group Training in Biosafety directly supports the RMRCE’s objective of providing trained personnel for biodefense and emerging infectious diseases research. Most if not all of the trainees will work in the laboratories of RMRCE-funded PIs, and will thus contribute to the successful attainment of research project goals.
